You! Update Your Browser, Dummy!

A security patch is only good if someone actually downloads and installs it.
A post to the Google blog points to a new study that finds only 59.1% percent of Internet users worldwide use the latest major version of their preferred web browser with all the latest patches.
Firefox users are the most attentive: with 92.2% of Firefox users using the latest version. Only 52.5% of Microsoft Internet Explorer users have updated to version 7.
Of course this is in part thanks to Firefox’s auto-update mechanism, which the paper suggests Microsoft needs to emulate. Of course many older Windows users and corporations don’t use IE7 because it either isn’t compatible with their OS or it, well, breaks things.
